Ole Nick’s Fisho Traces

March 3rd, 2010

Those who attended “Ole Nicks Fisho Traces” demonstrationon Wednesday 3 February were treated to a night of tricks and knots and a lot more! Yes Bruce shared everything from different types of tackle, braid versus nylon, baits to the do’s and don’ts and how to catch the BIG one. It was such a good night that many of us were still there till well after9pm. For those that don’t have time or the inclination of making your own tackle you could also purchase tackle on the night at great discount prices, just for the Waimea Fishing Section. It was such a fantastic night that Bruce has joined the Waimea Club and the Fishing section. Watch this space for the next date as we have invited Bruce to return and share more tips. In the meantime the Fishing section has trips planned
Fishing Club news out of Kaikoura and Picton in the next few months. Meetings held first Wednesday of every month. So come along and meet the gang – we’re a fun bunch and love our fishing.

See you at our next meetingWednesday 3rd March at the Waimea Club rooms.

Of note: As a matter of interest,
remember the photo of Viv with her
‘baby groper’ in the last Club Waimea
newsletter. Dan Carter and Todd
Blackadder were most impressed
by the catch shown in the pic which
prompted them to discuss their fishing
exploits when the Crusaders
were in the district recently.

Indoor Bowls The game for everyone

January 27th, 2010

Club Waimea hosted the 26th Annual Clubs National Womens indoor bowls tournament last july with locals Jean McKenzie , Patricia Stade and Linda Carrick amongst the successful players.

At Club Waimea we have a strong Indoor Bowls Section. Our bowling season generally runs from February until early October each year. During our season we meet each Monday evening at 7.15 in the Club Waimea hall. Opening night for the 2010 season is 15 February. We have a busy season of bowls planned as well as visits to and from otherclubs in our region. There are also several open tournaments held by other clubs and associations that our teams are encouraged to participate in. Indoor Bowls is a game that can be played by everyone either as a social activity or as competitively as you wish, no equipment is required other than the wearing of flat soled shoes to protect the bowling mats. There are social games of singles, pairs, triples and fours as well as championship matches for those that want to play at a higher level. New members are always welcome, so why not come to our opening night on 15 February and give the game of Indoor Bowls a go. Encouragement and coaching is given to new players.

For more information on the Indoor Bowls Section:

Tele phone Mary Jordan on 544 9613 or AtholCurtis on 544 8046.
